Can anyone be a consistent winner with gambling?
Well, there is not an easy answer to this question, in fact, this is a tricky question. Thing is, we never play only against hazard when gambling. Don’t ever forget that gambling games were designed by and for casinos and they need to make profits. So the casino will always have an edge over common players in the long run.
Let’s take for example French Roulette (just one zero):
Every time a players bets a dollar on a number and hits it he will get 36 times his bet, but there are 37 numbers counting cause there's also the zero in which the ball could land. So the chances of hitting your number are 1 time for each 37 turns of the wheel, and when you do, you will get only 36 times your bet. In this way, in the long term, the casino silently earns 2,7% of the all money placed in bet. And we, in order to be a long term winner, have to get an edge over our earnings source (or in other words, the casino in this case). oes it sound differend now when you start realising this?

So, to answer the first question we could ask ourselves two more things:
1-    Where does the profit of the casino come from?
2-    Where does players winnings come from?

If the answers to those questions are: 1- From the number of players and/or money played by them, no matter if they win or loose, and 2- From other player’s losses: Then the answer is yes, you can earn money on a long term basis with this game. You will have just to develop your skills to get an edge over the rest of the players. However, if the answers are that casino’s profits come from player’s losses and player’s winnings come from casino, then it will be problematic to consistently win in the long term. It doesn’t mean you can’t win; you can minimize the house’s edge by developing gambling strategies. But you might expect to lose some time. Let’s discuss a few examples:

Poker
1-    Where does casino’s profit come from?
Casinos or pokerooms take a share of every dollar put into the pot, no matter who wins and who looses. So, casinos earn money from every pot, no matter if it's always the same player who wins or if each pot goes to a different one. 
2- Where does players winnings come from?
It comes from other players. In the rules of poker there is no case in which the pokeroom has to pay any price to the players (We are not talking about jackpots, rake backs and other promotions that are marketing decisions which have nothing to do with the game of poker itself). So in other words, if a player is a long term winner on poker it will not risk the profitability of the casino in any way (otherwise no casino would provide poker in its rooms as it would make the casino go bankrupt).

So, winning doesn’t jeopardize casino’s profitability, player’s winnings don’t come from the house but from other players so in that case you have to have an edge over the other players and not over the casino. We can conclude poker could be a long term profitable game if we develop skills to get an edge over the rest of the players.

1-Where does casino’s profit come from?
As we saw at the beginning of this article, from players who don’t hit their bet, and in the long term this edge is 2,7% because of the income that the zero on the roulette gives them.

2-Where does players winnings come from?
From the casino, who pays every time the player hits a number.

In this case, you need to have an edge over your money source, in other words: the casino. Please realise, if players were able to get an edge over casinos, it would be lethal for them. So this is not possible, that is to say... on the long term. On the long run casinos will always have some advantage as they are the ones who eventually have to win. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such things as casinos. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t win at all. On the short term there are various ways to gamble on a profitable way!
